Small Grants Program

Funding for Student Research Projects

The small grants program provides funding up to $400 ($600 for group projects) to enable undergraduate students to participate in a research project or creative activity with a faculty mentor during the academic year. Applications are generally accepted in the fist month of the Fall and Spring semesters. After consulting with their faculty research mentor, students initiate the application. Faculty are then asked to review and approve the application.

Description

Program Details

The Small Grant Award program is designed to help defray the cost of equipment, supplies, and student travel necessary to conduct a research or scholarly project. When traveling, the primary purpose of the travel must be to enable the student to conduct research. It is not intended as salary for the student, as a means to offset normal costs associated with course projects, nor is it intended to defray students' travel costs that are not directly related to research.

Eligibility Requirements and Expectations

  1. Participants must be registered undergraduate students during the semester the award is given.
  2. All students receiving a Small Grant Award must submit one (or more) abstracts to participate in the Student Research and Creativity Conference (SRCC) in Spring.
  3. A faculty mentor must help the student write the application, approve the finished application, and guide the student(s) during the execution of the project and during the creation of the SRCC abstract.
  4. Posters and Oral presentations at the SRCC should acknowledge financial support from the Office of Undergraduate Research.
  5. Students are also encouraged to participate in the SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) in Spring.
